SERTPO Receives 2026 AARP Community Challenge Flagship Grant
The Southeast Regional Transportation Planning Organization is proud to announce that it has been selected as a 2026 AARP Community Challenge grantee.
Through this grant, SERTPO will launch an Age-Friendly Mobility Hub Pilot Program in southeast Oklahoma, with pilot locations in Wilburton, McAlester, and Durant. The project will support practical improvements that help residents better access walking, biking, trails, parks, downtown areas, and local community destinations.
Each mobility hub will include bike repair equipment, signage, and basic improvements designed to support active transportation and safer local connections. The project places a special focus on older adults, aging in place, active living, and rural mobility.
The AARP Community Challenge supports quick-action projects that help make communities more livable for people of all ages. In 2026, AARP selected 750 grantees nationwide and provided $8.3 million in investment through the program.
SERTPO appreciates AARP’s support and looks forward to working with local partners to complete the project.
