SERTPO Releases 2025 Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Plan for Public Review
The Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization (SERTPO) has released its 2025 Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Plan and is now inviting public review and feedback.
This important document outlines how SERTPO ensures that all residents β regardless of their ability to read, speak, write, or understand English β have meaningful access to transportation planning programs, services, and activities throughout the region.
The LEP Plan is a key component of SERTPOβs commitment to equity, accessibility, and compliance with federal Title VI requirements, ensuring no individual is excluded from participation based on language barriers. As noted in the plan, SERTPO works to provide language assistance, improve communication efforts, and expand outreach to underserved populations across its 17-county service area .
What the Plan Covers
The 2025 LEP Plan includes:
A four-factor analysis to assess language needs across the region
Strategies for language assistance and translation services
Procedures for public engagement and outreach
Ongoing efforts to monitor and improve accessibility
Guidance for staff training and communication with LEP individuals
The document also highlights regional data, including populations where English is not the primary language, helping guide future outreach and planning efforts.
Why It Matters
Transportation planning impacts daily life β from commuting and economic development to access to essential services. Ensuring all voices are heard, including those with limited English proficiency, strengthens planning outcomes and supports more inclusive, effective transportation systems across southeastern Oklahoma.
