SERTPO Releases 2025 Public Participation Plan for Public Review
The Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization (SERTPO) has released its 2025 Public Participation Plan (PPP) and is now inviting public review and feedback.
The Public Participation Plan serves as a guiding document that outlines how SERTPO engages residents, stakeholders, and communities in the regional transportation planning process. Covering a 17-county region in southeastern Oklahoma, the plan ensures that all individuals have opportunities to participate in decisions that shape transportation systems and investments.
The plan emphasizes transparency, accessibility, and inclusivity, aligning with federal requirements under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As highlighted in the document, public involvement remains a cornerstone of effective transportation planning, requiring open meetings, accessible information, and meaningful opportunities for input .
What the Plan Includes
The 2025 Public Participation Plan outlines:
Opportunities for public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement
Required public comment periods for key planning documents
Strategies for reaching underserved populations, including low-income, elderly, and minority communities
Use of digital tools, surveys, and media outreach to expand public involvement
Coordination with local governments, agencies, and tribal partners
The plan also details how SERTPO ensures compliance with accessibility standards, including accommodations for individuals with disabilities and those with limited English proficiency.
Why Public Participation Matters
Transportation decisions impact daily life — from safety and mobility to economic development and quality of life. SERTPO’s Public Participation Plan ensures that community voices are not only heard but actively considered in shaping transportation priorities and investments across the region.
